ABCTE to Host Teacher Recruitment Events in South Carolina

Columbia, SC (PRWEB) January 18, 2008 -- The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (www.abcte.org) (ABCTE) is hosting three teacher recruitment events for professionals who want to change careers and teach high school. The events will be held in Florence, Greenville and Columbia.

"There are already 150 professionals in South Carolina who are enrolled in ABCTE?s Passport to Teaching program. Because the program is designed for busy professionals, it is affordable and flexible. We hope to see many more professionals who want to transition into teaching at the recruitment events,? said David W. Saba, president of ABCTE.

At the sessions, attendees can meet ABCTE representatives to discuss how they can earn their teacher certification using the Passport to Teaching program. In Columbia, attendees will also be able to meet with representatives from several area school districts. Unlike the PACE program, ABCTE's Passport to Teaching program does not require candidates to hold a degree in a particular subject area. Candidates for Passport to Teaching must hold a bachelor?s degree in any subject area, pass a background check, pass an examination in teaching knowledge and an examination in the subject area they want to teach. Candidates are not required to take additional college courses in order to earn a teaching certificate. ABCTE offers Passport to Teaching certification in English, math, general science, biology, physics and chemistry.
